It is told through the personal experiences of the fruiterers and greengrocers who spent hours displaying fruit, trimming vegetables and serving with a smile. Their recollections are brought to life by numerous photos provided by their families and are enriched by additional information from libraries, archives and museums. Accompanying the book is a list of known Chinese fruit shops.
Volume 1 covers Southland up to Wairarapa, Manawatu, Taranaki.
Volume 2 covers Hawke's Bay, Waikato to Auckland and Northland.
